Plicatim

Plicatim is my small 3D print studio. I’m Vincent, a hardware designer by day, and in the rest of the time I just love making things.

I only started learning Autodesk Fusion back in December 2025. Since then, I keep designing things for the house and some little toys to keep my kids entertained. Of course, it’s not entirely for my kids, it’s also an excuse to justify this hobby.

Why the name

Basically, the name comes from Latin. Plica means a fold or a ply, and -atim means “X by X”, like verbatim (word by word). So Plicatim is “ply by ply”, in other words, layer by layer, which is exactly how a 3D printer builds things.

Still tinkering, layer by layer

That’s pretty much how I work. I try an idea, print it, see what goes wrong, fix it and print it again. Most of my models went through a few iterations before they worked, and the failed prints are part of the story.

What you’ll find here

This blog is a record of what I learned along the way. For each model I write down:

why I made it

how I modeled it in Fusion, including the parts that didn’t work at first

printing notes: the settings, the failed prints and what fixed them

where to download it

All my models are on MakerWorld. If you have a question, or know an easier way to do something, please leave a comment below the post.

Hope you find it useful.
